he predicted today in his speech in indianapolis that in fact in the not that distant future so there has been an impasse and political limbo, some time in the future those political differences will be resolved and the united states will continue its draw down but will not completely leafy rack as a matter of policy or u.s. forces. let's listen briefly to the vice president. >> i'm absolutely confident that iraq will form a national unity government that will be able to sustain that country. one more thing, drawing down our troops in iraq does not mean we are disengaging. >> reporter: that's an interesting point, rick, and jenna, because yesterday the commanding u.s. general in iraq said if the iraqis asked the united states to stay after the scheduled removal of all u.s. forces in 2011 the u.s. would consider that. the administration officials i've talked to says that is not signaling a new strategy, but it does open a bit of a window. rick: it's been five months now since iraq's national elections. how concerned is the white house about the recent wave of violence there? >> reporte
